Simple Electrolyte Drink Recipe to Restore Hydration

By Susan E Couch

  1. ½ teaspoon baking soda
  2. ½ teaspoon salt (can use sea salt)
  3. 3 to 4 tablespoons sugar or (can replace with sugar substitute)
  4. 1/4 teaspoon salt substitute (potassium chloride)
  5. Sugar free flavoring like sugar free Kool Aid  or 3 to 4 tablespoons of lemon juice.

In quart size container or pitcher, add a small amount of the water (hot will make everything dissolve faster) and the rest of the ingredients. Stir or whisk until completely dissolved.  Add remainder of water.  If your container has a lid, of course it is easier to just put the lid on it and shake it.  You can also skip the sugar or sugar substitute by using Tang instead or some kind of presweetened flavoring.   I would prefer Tang just because it has vitamin C.

Keep in mind this is a simple recipe.  A more complex recipe would also involve adding magnesium and a couple of other ingredients.  Chances are you won’t be storing these other ingredients as part of your stockpile for emergencies.
